Head of the Charles (All Day)

Cheer on the rowers as they compete in the Annual Head of the Charles Regatta. Tickets are not required. Location: Access the Esplanade along the Charles River via overpasses which are located: behind Marsh Plaza, 735 Commonwealth Avenue, and behind Wheelock College and the Questrom School of Business at the very end of Silber Way. No registration is required.

 

BU Residential Dining 

Residential Dining halls will serve what students eat every day. Inclusive of cultural cuisines prepared by our globally diverse team. Our team looks like our student population, and we are here to engage and delight every day. Family & friends may utilize student guest passes, with their student, or pay to enter the dining hall. No registration is required.

    Study Abroad Open House (10 am-12 pm)

    Join us at BU Study Abroad for a casual drop-in open house to learn more about the 200+ study abroad options available to BU students. Meet and chat with our Alumni Ambassadors who recently returned from their study abroad experiences. Engage with staff members, pick up some of our materials along with some fun swag while you enjoy some light refreshments. Location: 888 Commonwealth Avenue, 2nd Floor

     

    27th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium (11 am-1 pm)

    Join more than 200 undergraduate students as they present their summer research projects in an interactive poster session. Students will showcase their research across all disciplines with presentations from 11 am- 12 pm and 12-1 pm. Location: George Sherman Union, 775 Commonwealth Avenue, 2nd Floor, Metcalf Ballroom

     

    BU Art Galleries (11 am–5 pm)

    Art Exhibition: 1998: Works by Laurie Simmons. This exhibition is a selection of photographs by artist Laurie Simmons. These photographs revisit the miniature elements Simmons introduced in her seminal work of the late 1970s. These photographs are of dramatically lighted installation views of architectural models filled with furniture and occasional figures. Location: Faye G., Jo, and James Stone Gallery, 855 Commonwealth Avenue. No registration is required. 

     

    BU Art Galleries (11 am–5 pm)

    Art Exhibition: Group Crit: MFA Painting and Sculpture 1969 – 2024. MFA and BFA graduates from Painting and Sculpture represent what they learned at SVA along with new pathways they are establishing as emerging artists. Visual themes are apparent across the gallery walls but there are other less visible but equally important connections represented in this show. These works may be reminders of friendships forged in Foundation, close faculty mentorship, or years of conversations in the graduate studios. Location: 808 Gallery, 808 Commonwealth Avenue. No registration is required.

     

    Family & Friends Weekend Lounge (12–4 pm)

    Engage with Dean of Students staff members while enjoying light refreshments and fall-inspired treats in the GSU Link. Registration is not required. Location: George Sherman Union, 775 Commonwealth Avenue, 1st Floor. No registration is required.

     

    Center for Career Development (2–4 pm) 

    Join us at the Center for Career Development for a casual drop-in style mixer and learn about the services and programs we provide for all BU students. Meet and network with current BU students who have completed internships in a variety of industries. Engage with staff members and enjoy some light refreshments while you take in our beautiful Charles River view. Location: Yawkey Center for Student Services, 100 Bay State Road, 6th Floor.

     

    Sustainability Tours of the Center for Computing & Data Science (2–3 pm)

    Join BU Sustainability as they lead tours of the Center for Computing & Data Sciences. Location: Center for Computing & Data Sciences, 665 Commonwealth Avenue, East Entrance

     

    Questrom Family Business Program: “How Do You Create a Family Constitution to Optimize Family and Business Harmony?” (3–6 pm)

    This 90-minute seminar focuses on ideas and frameworks for how family members can collectively develop and update a family constitution to align their visions, values, and business goals. Please join us with faculty members Jay Zagorsky and Patrick Abouchalache. After the seminar, families and students are welcome to join the faculty for a reception. Location: Questrom School of Business, 595 Commonwealth Avenue, Classroom 210

     

    Pardee School of Global Studies Friends & Family Open House (3–5 pm)

    In between the Women’s and Men’s Ice Hockey Games join the BU community for a Fan Fest filled with school spirit!     12th Annual Provost’s Academic Awards Ceremony (9 am–2 pm)

    Recognizing & celebrating BU student fellowship and scholarship awardees from the 2023-2024 academic year. Location: Questrom School of Business, One Silber Way, 9th Floor, Trustee Ballroom

     

    A Taste of Stress ReLeaf Tea Demo (9:30–11:30 am)

    Come for the tea, stay for the mindfulness! Get a glimpse into this popular Student Wellbeing workshop. Simply stop by the GSU Demo Table across from the City Convenience store to sample some tea and talk with the program’s creator, Kim Santo. For a sneak preview, watch this BU Today feature.     Take in the excitement of the Head of the Charles Regatta (HOCR) from the Alpert Mall/BU Beach and find out why this is a world-renowned regatta!     42nd Annual Joint Service Pass-in-Review (10–11 am)

    Join the University’s ROTC program in one of our country’s oldest military traditions. Through a series of commands, the cadets and midshipmen prepare for Honors and then to march past the reviewing party which includes BU President Melissa Gilliam. The one-hour ceremony is filled with military pomp, precision, and pageantry. Location: Nickerson Field, 285 Babcock Street

     

    LGBTQIA+ Student Resource Center Brunch Reception (11 am–12:30 pm)

    Join us for an engaging talk by CGS Professor Tom Whalen as he discusses his latest book, Dynasty Restored: How Larry Bird and the 1984 Boston Celtics Conquered the NBA and Changed Basketball. Professor Whalen will delve into the unforgettable 1983-84 season, where the Celtics overcame internal challenges to secure a historic NBA championship and transformed the league forever.
