Dr. Dina Castro on The 9:30 Call: Bilingual Education in Early Childhood

On June 17, The 9:30 Call en español brought together early childhood educators and advocates to explore one of the most critical topics in our field: bilingual education and child development. The conversation was co-facilitated by Harold Blanco and Paula A. Echeverri Durango from ECCHO-Latino and Paula’s Barn Child Care. During the call, it was discussed why advocating for bilingual education and supporting the maintenance of the mother tongue at home in early childhood is fundamental to ensuring that bilingual children in our community develop a healthy identity and achieve success in school and in life.

Dr. Dina Castro, Director of the Institute for Early Childhood Well-Being at Wheelock College of Education and Human Development, Boston University, shared valuable insights on the importance of bilingualism and highlighted our Nuestros Niños program, which trains early childhood educators on evidence-based approaches to teaching bilingual children effectively.
