Cities shape health, to the advantage of some residents and the detriment of others. The Research on Innovations for Safety and Equity (RISE) Lab at BU School of Public Health uses data analysis to investigate the root causes of urban health disparities and identify solutions. We are especially focused on firearm violence, structural racism, and the built environment. Our work has informed policymaking in U.S. cities and has been covered by outlets like Newsweek, The New York Times, and CNN. The principal investigator of RISE Lab is Dr. Jonathan Jay, Assistant Professor of Community Health Sciences at BUSPH.
