Luke Saunders (he/him)

I am a senior Physics major on the graduate track with minors in Mathematics and German. My other commitments at BU include positions as vice president of the German Culture Club, demo officer of Photon, and tutor through the ERC Peer Tutoring program. I have also had the fortune of being involved in research relating to theoretical dark sector mediators over the past year through UROP. Although I am originally from Southwestern Ohio, I have greatly enjoyed the change of pace that Boston certainly demands. In my free time I enjoy reading, writing, and playing the piano.

Madi VanWyngarden (she/her)

Hi! My name is Madi VanWyngarden. I am a senior majoring in Physics & Astronomy from Omaha, Nebraska. My past research includes studying pulsating white dwarf stars and creating exoplanet evolution models. At BU, I have the privilege of being Co-President of the BU Astronomical Society and the Vice President of the Society of Women in Space Exploration. Outside of class, I love reading, baking, watching movies, and going on walks through the city.

Nicole Flors (she/her)

Hey! I’m Nicole, but you can also call me Nickie. I’m a senior Astronomy and Physics major, and I am currently doing research in the astronomy department studying the gamma-ray emissions of blazars. I’m also co-president of the BU Astronomical Society and Photon (physics club!), as well as a member of Alpha Phi Omega (community service frat!). In my limited free time, I enjoy drinking too much coffee, doing all kinds of art, and exploring the city. I’m always excited to meet more people interested in physics!

Ryan Nie (he/him)

Hi, I am Ryan, a senior studying physics and stats. Outside of PRISM, I am on the executive board for BU’s Data Science Association as well as the VP of Quant for the Finance and Investment Club. Currently, I am doing research on machine learning applications in physics in Professor Suarez’s group. During my free time, I like to bike around Boston and take pictures of urban landscapes. I also like to play basketball and am a huge fan of Boston sports.

Hieu Nguyen (he/him)

(This is an old picture of me, I probably don’t look like this in real life). My name is Hieu (pronounced like Hugh) but you can call me Hieu (pronounced like hue). I am a Physics major (obviously) and I like to spend most of my time in the undergrad classroom. If you ever see me on the streets, I am usually in a daze as am thinking of ways I could have won an argument that I had earlier in the day. Outside of Physics, I consider myself to be qUiRKy and NOT like other girls. Meaning, I’m kinda like a sponge: I just sit there and don’t much. PLEASE BE MY MENTEE. I really want to flex- I mean share my Physics wisdom!

Tiphany Thaiduc (she/her)

Hi everyone! My name is Tiphany Thaiduc, I’m a junior studying astronomy and physics. I’m from France (not Paris haha). I’m currently doing research in the astronomy department modeling hydrogen lines of stars hosting Peter Pan Disks. In my free time, I like to read, play basketball and draw.

Salvatore Cordova (he/him)

Hey everyone! My name is Salvatore and I’m a junior majoring in physics and philosophy and minoring in math. I was born in Chile but lived most of my life in Peru. One of my biggest passions is teaching, and I’ve been fortunate enough to be a Learning Assistant for PY212, PY313, and PY351. I also have research experience in astronomy and am currently working in Professor Hu’s lab where we study quantum materials using light. When I’m not talking about physics or philosophy, I can usually be found playing chess or petting the nearest dog :)

Jay LoMonaco (they/he)

Hi! I’m Jay and I’m a senior astrophysics major from Connecticut! I’ve done research on x-ray radiation in other galaxies, finding exoplanets within our galaxy using the transit method, and, most recently, on Higgs pair production with CERN. Academically, I also enjoy taking French courses along with women’s, gender, and sexuality electives. In my free time, I like to play video games on my Switch, watch the Pokemon series (I’m currently in the year 2002!), draw, and play bassoon. Can’t wait to meet you all!

Eli Marlin (he/him)

Hi my name is Eli Marlin. I am a Junior Physics and Astronomy major from Northampton MA. I am currently involved in research on experimental neutrino physics at BU! Outside of physics I’m on the BU ultimate frisbee team and perform stand-up comedy. I’m a big sports fan, especially skiing and football, and love to hike, sail, climb … Anything outdoors!

Russell Mapaye (he/him)

Hi, my name is Russell Mapaye and I’m from Orinda, California. I’m a senior here at BU majoring in Astronomy & Physics. My research interests relate to the atmospheres of the outer planets (plus their moons) and extrasolar planets and I’ve had the opportunity to conduct research on both Jupiter and Uranus’ atmospheres. Outside of the classroom, I like to play golf, hike, and make music, just to name a few.
