PRISM Mentors 2022-2023

Jade Chismar  (she/her)

Hi everyone! My name is Jade, I’m a senior physics major from Honolulu, Hawaii, and the current director of PRISM. I was a physics LA for 3 semesters, and am currently doing research in high energy physics. Besides physics, I am also a member of the BU women’s water polo team, and in my free time I love to read and explore the city.

Maya Steen  (she/her)

Hi! I’m Maya and I’m a senior studying astronomy and physics. I’m from Minneapolis, MN. When I’m not studying I love listening to music, reading, going to the gym, cooking, and traveling!

Hannah Willy (she/her)

Hey! I’m Hannah, I am a senior studying astronomy and physics. I do research for the VLBA in the astronomy department (tracking the movement of the jets of blazars over time). In my free time I love to mini golf, read, go to the beach…pretty much do anything outdoors. I am also SUCH a movie person and love all sports!

~

Paula Fudolig  (she/her)

Hi, I’m Paula and I’m a senior astronomy & physics major from Maryland! I normally do research in the BU Blazar Group during the school year, but I just came back from doing a 7-month internship at CERN! I’ve also founded a chapter of the Society of Women in Space Exploration at BU and am in the Tri Delta sorority on campus. In my rarely-achieved free time, I love to watch movies (definitely a film major in another life), explore new places (excited to get back to this in Boston), and generally try new hobbies (into sewing right now!). Very excited to meet you all!

Anna Mei (she/her)

Hi! I’m Anna, a senior majoring in physics and pure math. I’m interested in high energy theories, and my current research is on QCD and Hamiltonian truncation. My favorite book is ‘The Threebody Problem’ (which actually inspired me to study physics, 100% recommended, really great one). Other than physics I also love skiing, skating and badminton (and probably sailing because I’ll learn it soon :) ).

Ryan Nie (he/him)

Hey, I am Ryan, a senior studying physics and stats from Boston (Yes, the city. Not the suburbs). Outside of PRISM, I am on the tech team for BU’s Data Science Association as well as VP of Quant for the Finance and Investment Club. My current academic interests include quantitative finance and machine learning, but I have also done research in the medical and economics field. During my free time, I love to bike around Boston and take pictures of urban landscapes. I also like to play basketball and is a huge fan of the Boston Celtics and NE Patriots.

Thomas Kelly (he/him)

Hello! My name is Tom and I’m a senior from Albany, NY.  I am majoring in physics with a minor in computer science and I’m currently doing research in space physics.  In my free time, my favorite things to do are exercise, watch sports, and play video games.

Marshal (Yuhao) Dong (he/him)

Hi everybody, I’m Marshal, a senior with a Physics/CS major and minors in business and Japanese. I am interested in experimental quantum computing. I am from Ningbo, China, and I had lived in Manchester, NH, for three years. In my free time, I like to play video games, hang out in Global House (BU’s foreign language living-learning community), and enjoy (ideally live)  classical music. My favorite games in 2022 are Elden Ring and God of War 4 (on PC).

Brian Murray (he/him)

Hi! My name is Brian, and I am a senior majoring in Physics and minoring in (non-statistical) mathematics. I’m from Albany, New York. In my free time, you can find me playing the viola, getting a sick pump at FitRec, reading, watching movies, tutoring at the ERC, and exploring all that Boston has to offer.

Raymond Kil (he/him)

Hi! I’m Raymond from Korea. I am a senior pursuing a BA/MA in physics. I am trying to earn both degrees in four years, along with a semester studying abroad in Geneva! I have LA experience and math exam grader experience. I am currently participating in a research project affiliated with CMS at CERN on Soft Unclustered Energy Pattern (SUEP) detection, which is a promising candidate for dark matter. Academics aside, I am super interested in playing drums and swimming! Speak to me about Brit rock band Muse, and I won’t let you go for three days.

~

Hannah Holbert (she/her)

I’m a senior physics major from Honesdale Pennsylvania. I enjoy reading, hiking, and painting. I’m a part of Photon, a mentor for IPM and TTBU. I hope to travel after graduation and eventually work in ML/AI development. I love exploring Boston and going for boba in Chinatown.

Xu Cai (he/him)

Hi, I’m Xu Cai, and I’m a junior Physics major and minoring in mathematics. I’ve been doing physics research about probing the noise generated by many particles during the summer. When I’m not studying, I like listening to music, reading, running, and playing video games.

~

Luke Saunders (he/him)

I am a junior Physics major on the graduate track with minors in Mathematics and German. My other commitments at BU include positions as vice president of the German Culture Club, demo officer of Photon, and tutor through the ERC Peer Tutoring program. I have also had the fortune of being involved in research relating to theoretical dark sector mediators over the past year through UROP. Although I am originally from Southwestern Ohio, I have greatly enjoyed the change of pace that Boston certainly demands. In my free time I enjoy reading, writing, and playing the piano.

~

Sam Fulton (he/him)

Hi! I’m Sam, a junior majoring in physics. I enjoy running, hiking, reading, cooking, and binge-watching Netflix. For the past two years, I’ve worked on a table-top neutrino experiment where we are trying to improve our understanding of neutrino production processes. Some of my favorite topics in physics include quantum simulation, neutrino physics, and emergent phenomena.

~

Isabelle Boegholm (she/her)

Hi! I’m Isabelle and I’m a junior physics major from Massachusetts. I have been an LA for two semesters, and apart from physics, I am also a part of the women’s club waterpolo team. In my free time I like to read, make jewelry, go to the beach, or go to concerts!

~

Hieu Nguyen (he/him)

(This is an old picture of me, I probably don’t look like this in real life). My name is Hieu (pronounced like Hugh) but you can call me Hieu (pronounced like hue). I am a Physics major (obviously) and I like to spend most of my time in the undergrad classroom. If you ever see me on the streets, I am usually in a daze as am thinking of ways I could have won an argument that I had earlier in the day. Outside of Physics, I consider myself to be qUiRKy and NOT like other girls. Meaning, I’m kinda like a sponge: I just sit there and don’t much. PLEASE BE MY MENTEE. I really want to flex- I mean share my Physics wisdom!

~

Madi VanWyngarden (she/her)

Hi! My name is Madi VanWyngarden. I am a junior majoring in Physics & Astronomy from Omaha, Nebraska. My past research includes studying pulsating white dwarf stars and creating exoplanet evolution models. At BU, I have the privilege of being Co-President of the BU Astronomical Society and the Vice President of the Society of Women in Space Exploration. Outside of class, I love reading, baking, watching movies, and going on walks through the city.

~

Nicole Flors (she/her)

Hey! I’m Nicole, but you can also call me Nickie. I’m a junior Astronomy and Physics major, and I am currently doing research in the astronomy department studying the gamma ray emissions of blazars. I’m also co-president of the BU Astronomical Society and Photon (physics club!), as well as a member of Alpha Phi Omega (community service frat!). In my limited free time, I enjoy drinking too much coffee, doing all kinds of art, and exploring the city. I’m always excited to meet more people interested in physics!
