David J. Chard, Ph.D. is Dean of Boston University’s Wheelock College of Education and Human Development and Professor of Special Education. Prior to coming to BU, Dr. Chard served as the 14th President of historic Wheelock College. Dr. Chard was nominated twice by President Barack Obama to serve on the Board of Directors of the National Board for Education Sciences. He earned his Ph.D. in Special Education from the University of Oregon in 1995. Chard is co-author with Dr. Mary Churchill of When Colleges Close: Leading in a Time of Crisis (April 2021, Johns Hopkins Press). Chard has three adult children and is married to Michael Yeung, an international tax specialist with a J.D. from Boston College. They live in Boston and Provincetown.
