Brianna interned with the Rhode Island Department of Health with a focus on Health Equity. Brianna attempts to address health inequities by exploring alternative options to health that do not currently exist in our healthcare system- art and social prescribing. This report is predominantly an exploration of existing literature from other countries. Brianna explores through secondary analysis which countries have had the most success with implementation, how, and why they were successful. She also used this information to analyze the current climate regarding change in the American system. The majority of the literature suggests that the use of social prescribing and art as a health intervention was beneficial for participants. Brianna also found that the American healthcare system is currently going through the early stages of change toward a more socially inclusive approach to healthcare. As time persists, incremental changes will continue to show promise toward complete integration.
