The Vermont Department of Mental Health identified five groups at-risk for suicide: Adult Males, Seniors and Elders, Youth and young adults, LGBTQ Youth and young adults, and Refugees. Each group has a higher rate of suicide than the general Vermont population and faces significant health disparities that greatly increase their risk of suicide. The goal of this internship project is to identify culturally-specific factors and considerations for best practices in suicide prevention, which stakeholders and policymakers in the state of Vermont can use to plan initiatives to reduce the rate of suicide.
