Mobile and Electronic Health ARC Seminar | April 2026
Please join the Mobile & Electronic Health ARC on Tuesday, April 7th from 12-1pm for a virtual seminar titled “Embodiment, Empathy, and Engagement in Automated Health Counseling”.
Our presenter, Dr. Timothy Bickmore, is a Professor in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University in Boston, where his research focuses on the design and evaluation of embodied and socially interactive health technologies, including humanoid robots and virtual humans, that engage patients in health counseling and behavior change. His work examines how physical and virtual embodiment, nonverbal communication, and relational behaviors, such as gaze, gesture, and proxemics, shape patient experience, engagement, and therapeutic alliance in automated health interventions. His work has been supported by multiple NIH and NSF grants to develop and evaluate agents in automated health education and long-term health behavior change interventions.
