Compound 8 Mechanistic Studies

It was also found that an intermediate in DXP pathway, 1-hydroxy-2-methyl-butenyl 4-diphosphate (8, Fig. 1), stimulates ?? T-cell proliferation at picomolar concentrations. It was proposed that compound 8 functions as a signaling molecule for the recognition of microbial infection by the human innate-immune system. The structure of compound 8 is significantly different from all known signaling molecules in innate-immune responses. Thus, it is reasonable to assume that compound 8 is recognized by an unknown T-cell receptor. Or the recognition of compound 8 represents a new function of a previously reported T-cell receptor. In this sub-area, the identity of the T-cell receptor and the detailed signal transduction pathways triggered by compound 8 will be elucidated by the combination of chemical and biological approaches.
