Matthias Bernt

Acting Head of Research, Politics and Planning, Leibniz Institute for Research on Society and Space

Matthias Bernt is a sociologist and political scientist with a strong research interest is the governance of urban development. He is acting head of the research focus “Politics and Planning” at the Leibniz-Institute for Research on Society and Space in Erkner (near Berlin), Germany and holds a position as an adjunct lecturer at the Institute for Social Sciences at the Humboldt University in Berlin. In 2021, Bernt habilitated in sociology with an international comparative study on the connections between gentrification and public policies. He served as Book Review Editor for the International Journal of Urban and Regional Research from 2014 to 2021, as well as a member of the board of the Research Committee 21 on Sociology of Urban and Regional Development of the International Sociological Association.
