She joined the research program on Bilingualism, Intercultural Learning & Development (BILD) led by Dr. Dina Castro and is currently co-investigator in two studies, one exploring the childhood literacy experiences of Latin American immigrant early educators, and their perspectives on teaching young bilingual children, and a study examining Peruvian early educators’ perspectives and practices to support the construction of afro Peruvian identity in early childhood. Dr. Calderon-Moya is also a Postdoctoral Fellow funded by the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Société et culture (FRQSC) at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where she holds a Visiting Scholar appointment.

Dr. Calderón-Moya’s research investigates the experiences of immigrant and refugee children, youth, and adults from historically marginalized communities, with a focus on how these experiences shape early development, educational trajectories, and overall well-being. Specializing in early childhood education and academic inclusion, she uses qualitative approaches, including narrative inquiry and community-based participatory research, to amplify the voices of immigrant and refugee communities in the development of inclusive educational policy and practice. She conducts bilingual and bicultural research in collaboration with Latin American and other immigrant families and educators across the U.S. and Canada to help transform educational systems and expand opportunities for immigrant-origin students.
