Wall Street

Barnet Sherman has over 30 years of institutional investor experience growing and managing multibillion dollar portfolios at Morgan Stanley and TIAA. He also founded Braintree Capital, a hedge fund and Registered Investment Advisor. He takes pride in having analyzed, negotiated, and financed businesses and projects benefitting dozens of communities nationwide.

Academia

Now a Professor at Boston University, he draws on these experiences for his Multinational Finance & Trade and Corporate Finance and Accounting classes to give graduate students practical, real-world insights on these complex topics.

Subject Matter Expert

Widely regarded as a subject matter expert in his field, he has served on numerous Boards of Directors to offer guidance and advice. As a Forbes Senior Contributor for over 10 years, with nearly 100 articles with several “Editor’s Pick” commendations and other awards, his thinking has been sought by and quoted in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, INC, Chronical of Higher Education, Businessweek, Barron’s, and CNBC.

Advisor and Consultant

Passionate in his belief that business and entrepreneurship can have a transformative, positive impact in communities, Mr. Sherman founded The Tenbar Group in 2016 to advise to mission-driven companies and startups in the healthcare, senior care, and housing sectors. Clients include NYSE-listed companies and private equity funds.

He has since expanded to found Tenbar Global, a consultancy focused on International Business Risk Mitigation Solutions. The firm advises companies doing business in the global marketplace on identifying and reducing risk exposure by better understanding how economic, social, and geopolitical events affect counterparties, trading partners, and F/X.

With a model integrating economic data from 11 nations with the world largest economies–such as inflation and employment, GDP components, trade balances, and Central Bank actions–with social, demographic, and geopolitical factors, he tracks these developments and correlations with F/X in countries around the world.

Eagle Scout

He is an Eagle Scout as well as a life-time member of the Eagle Scout Association. Prior to his career in finance, Mr. Sherman served as a Congressional Aide (98th Congress, 2nd District-NY). He worked to introduce legislation benefitting handicapped Americans, drawing wide bipartisan support in both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. He’s testified in the U.S Federal Bankruptcy Court and for the Securities and Exchange Commission in Administrative Hearings.

Education

Mr. Sherman earned his undergraduate degree from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University, where he was a member of Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society. His Master’s in Public Administration is from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University.

Creative Arts

In addition to his professional writing, Mr. Sherman is a member of the Screen Actors Guild. With performances in film, on stage, in print, and in commercials, he gets to apply his training from John Strasberg Creative Studios, Second City Improv, and Shakespeare & Co.
