Author or Owner Unknown author, Umar Falke (owner)
Subject Sufism, Tijaniyya, Eulogy, Ahmad Tijani, Intercession, Day of Judgment
Content Literally, yabo means to hail or praise someone. But within this context, it is used to refer to a eulogy. The eulogy was composed in honor of Shaykh Ahmad Tijani, a Sufi spiritual leader and founder of the Tijaniyya movement who died in 1230/1815. The brief poem starts with an opening doxology. It is followed by praises and prayers to Prophet Muhammad, the Savior on the Day of Resurrection. The prayers extend to the companions of the Prophet. The eulogy then goes on to celebrate Shaykh Ahmad Tijani, denouncing anyone that deviates from his teachings. The poem ends with the poet invoking the saint’s intercession on the Day of Judgment.
