Why Women’s Health?

We all have about one million nephrons in each kidney to maintain our cardiovascular and kidney function and health to prevent many chronic diseases such as hypertension and cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome later in life. Women’s health, especially maternal health, directly influences the birth weight and final nephron number in each kidney during kidney development in fetuses and newborns (i.e., nephron endowment), a key pathogenic factor for the Fetal Origins of Adults Disease (FOAD) and Developmental Origins of Health And Disease (DOHaD).
