Jeff Furman is a TPRI Faculty Fellow and an Associate Professor of Strategy & Innovation at Boston University. He is also a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). His research addresses issues in innovation, science policy, and the strategic management of science-based firms. His work has been published in a range of academic journals, including the American Economic Review (AER), the Review of Economics and Statistics, Organization Science, Research Policy, the American Economic Journal – Economic Policy, and Nature. He co-organizes the Productivity Seminar series that meets at the NBER and he completed separate terms as a member of the Executive Committee of the Academy of Management’s BPS and TIM Divisions and a six-year term as the Director of the Undergraduate Program at Boston University’s Questrom School of Business.
Furman earned his Ph.D. in Management at MIT’s Sloan School of Management. He completed his Bachelors’ studies at the University of Pennsylvania, including a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School and a B.A. in Psychology. In between, he studied managerial economics at the Free University of Berlin on a Fulbright Scholarship and worked in healthcare and policy consulting in Washington DC.
