Identity Matching and Attributes

Identity Matching is using five key identity elements (or attributes) to determine if a person requesting an identity already exists in our identity database.  For example, a former student who has returned as an employee would be matched during the hiring process to ensure they only have one identity with the university.

-Exact Match is when at least 4 of the 5 key identity attributes (First Name, Last Name, Date of Birth, Email & SSN/Passport #) match.

-Likely Match is when Email (personal), SSN or Passport number match but any of the person’s Last Name, First Name, Date of Birth, Person Email (personal), don’t match any known instance of these attributes for a single identity.

-Potential Match is when last name and Date of Birth match.

The most common Identity Attributes can be defined as:

  • BUID
  • Legal First Name
  • Legal Last Name
  • Date of Birth
  • Personal email address
  • Social Security Number (optional)
  • Passport number (optional)
  • Suffix (optional)
  • Prefix (optional)
  • Middle Name (optional)
