Diversity & Inclusion
The Rotjan Lab is committed to fostering, cultivating and preserving a culture of diversity and inclusion.
The collective sum of the individual differences, life experiences, knowledge, innovation, self-expression, unique capabilities and talent that our lab members invest in their work represents an important part of not only our culture, but our lab’s creativity and achievement as well.
We embrace and encourage our lab members’ differences in age, color, disability, ethnicity, family or marital status, gender identity or expression, language, national origin, physical and mental ability, political affiliation, race, religion, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, veteran status, and other characteristics – seen or unseen – that make our lab members unique.
The Rotjan Lab values a work environment built on the premise of diversity and equity that encourages and enforces:
- Respectful communication and cooperation
- Teamwork and participation
- The importance of every voice
- The value of life outside of the lab
- The positive power of diversity
All members of the Rotjan Lab have a responsibility to treat others with dignity and respect at all times. All members are expected to exhibit conduct that reflects inclusion in the lab, at lab functions on or off-site, online, above ground or underwater, at sea, and at all other Rotjan Lab events.
This is a place where we grow and learn; therefore, any member found to have repeatedly exhibited inappropriate conduct or behavior against others will be removed from the lab.
We are committed to providing each community member with tailored support and ally-ship. Lab members who believe they have been subjected to any kind of discrimination are encouraged to seek assistance from the PI or whomever you are comfortable speaking with.
Our simple credo is to help make the world a better place. We are proud of our lab culture, and we will always strive to make things better.
