Welcome! We are the BU Sargent College of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences Queer Understanding, Equity & Educational Research (Q.U.E.E.R.) Lab. At the Q.U.E.E.R. Lab, we have two primary missions.
- To foster inclusion and diversity in undergraduate and graduate STEM education
- To mechanistically characterize the pathophysiology of cardiovascular diseases in medically marginalized communities.
Our PIs, Dr. Jesse Moreira-Bouchard and Dr. Lisa Roberts, are both trained as researchers and as educators, and use the unique insight gained from practicing both methodologies to take a new aim at creating inclusion and equity for all. Our principal vision is a world where people of all backgrounds and identities experience inclusion and belonging in education, and where physicians and scientists collaborate to tackle the role of social determinants of health in cardiovascular disease.
Our ongoing projects include utilizing cardiovascular imaging and autonomic tests to interrogate cardiac and vascular function in individuals with high stress, inclusive content teaching regarding those individuals who are born with DSD/intersex conditions, and ecological interrogations of the effectsof stress on metabolic health.
