Program on Adolescent Behavior and Health

Mission

The Program on Adolescent Behavior and Health (PABH) at BUSPH is an interdisciplinary program that aims to generate new evidence on adolescent health through innovative and rigorous research activities. The PABH explores multilevel perspectives including developmental, psychosocial, political, and cultural factors that influence adolescents’ health and well-being. The PABH is committed to building collaborations among members across diverse scientific disciplines to generate new knowledge and advance adolescent health research.

Highlights of research projects and publications by our affiliate faculty, researchers, and students

Research project: The Confluence of State Bullying Policies and Firearm Policies in Reducing Youth Gun Carrying and Fatality (Funded by CDC 1R01CE003622)

Publication: More stringent age verification and other regulatory measures are needed to prevent targeted tobacco marketing on social media (Wu et al., 2025)

International collaboration: Studying Psychosocial Correlates of Adolescent Health among Middle School Students in Yunnan Province, China

The PABH Research Award

The Program on Adolescent Behavior and Health (PABH) at Boston University School of Public Health invites collaborations between Boston University faculty members and early-stage researchers to apply for funding to support the development of a research paper in the field of adolescent health for a peer-reviewed publication. Awards ranging from $1000 to $3000 will be given to selected candidates who have provided a timeline facilitating the completion of a manuscript that the PABH faculty group considers ready for submission to academic peer-review journals. Applicants should submit a two-page proposal for the manuscript under consideration. The proposal should include:

  • Application’s name, affiliation, and contact information
  • Target journal for publication
  • Anticipated timeline for completing the manuscript and journal submission
  • Potential faculty collaborator(s)/mentor(s), or content/methodology expertise needed
  • A brief outline of the manuscript (significance/background, gap and/or key research questions addressed, methods/approach)
  • A brief budget
