| Content | This manuscript is a poem by Nana Asma’u (1793-1864), the daughter of Shehu Usman Ɗan Fodio (1754-1817), founder of the Sokoto Caliphate in Northern Nigeria. The poem is written in Hausa Ajami, using the Maghribi writing style, and is vocalized throughout. Nana Asma’u directed the poem to her women followers, teaching them about the importance of seeking knowledge, righteous conduct, faith in God, piety, and adherence to marital rules. The poem ends with praises to Allah and prayers for Prophet Muhammad. The final verse suggests that it was completed between 1855 and 1857 CE. |
