| Content | These two documents are examples of the practical use of Hausa Ajami for record keeping and daily business matters. In these pages, we see the interwoven nature of religious and secular matters in Hausa society. The first page documents the birth of the scribe’s daughter, who is named Maimunata. As customary in most Hausa Ajami texts, each opens with praises and thanks to God, and closes with an Islamic formula (doxology). The second page is a contract between the author’s construction company and a client. Although the company’s name is not mentioned, the manuscript is kept in the company’s file, and a copy is with the client. |
