Cara Lewis Awarded for the FastOA Initiative

The Arthritis Foundation has awarded Cara Lewis as part of their Osteoarthritis Clinical Trial Network initiative called FastOA. To carry out this initiative, the Human Adaptation Lab (HAL) at Boston University will be evaluating hip morphology and movement in young female athletes (18 to 30 years old).
HAL Welcomes Sarah, Anne, Kat, and Yufei
We'd like to give a warm welcome to a few new members of our lab!
Sarah Booker and Anne Halverstadt will be joining HAL as our new research assistants. Sarah is a student in the Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) program here at Boston University, while Anne is working towards her Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science and Minor in Business at Northeastern University.
Katalina Aguilar and Yufei Zhang are our newest undergraduate researchers. Kat is a junior in biomedical engineering with previous research experience in neuroscience and sensorimotor integration at East Carolina University. Yufei is a sophomore in the 6-year Bachelor of Science in Health Studies/Doctor of Physical Therapy (BS/DPT) program.

Anna Applegate Receives Research Award at 2017 APTAMA Conference
Anna Applegate, one of HAL's DPT students, recently presented her research at the 2017 American Physical Therapy Association of Massachusetts (APTAMA) Annual Conference on October 28, 2017. The APTAMA, part of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), is comprised of physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and students in the field.
At this conference, Anna also received the Special Recognition for Excellence in Research Award for her work. Congrats, Anna!

Kari Loverro’s Study Featured in Inside Sargent Magazine
Kari Loverro, our PhD candidate, was recently featured in the 2017 edition of Inside Sargent magazine. Her dissertation examines the biomechanical effects of load carriage at different speeds on female and male soldiers.

Jing-Sheng and Fang-Yi Welcome Son Yuan-Bo
Jing-Sheng Li, one of HAL's PhD candidates, and his wife Fang-Yi recently announced the birth of their second son, Yuan-Bo. Yuan-Bo was born on October 16, 2017 in the early hours of the morning at 5:15am.

Anna Applegate Presents at 20th Annual UROP Symposium
Anna Applegate, one of our DPT students, recently presented her research at the 20th Annual Undergraduate Research (UROP) Symposium on October 13, 2017. Her project, titled "Altered movement patterns in individuals with FAIS during deep squat", looked at the differences between a squat task in subjects with FAIS versus controls, and differences in those patterns between sexes.
