Mobile and Electronic Health ARC Seminar | November 2025

Please join the Mobile & Electronic Health ARC on Friday, November 14th from 12-1pm for our virtual seminar, “AI-based Empathic Virtual Companions for People Living with Dementia”.

Our presenter, Dr. Mandy Salomon, is the co-founder and chief scientist of Mentia Health. Mandy’s research is directed toward leveraging digital technologies to improve the lives of older adults with cognitive decline. Her doctoral work (2016), demonstrated that people with moderate to advanced dementia are capable of sustaining interaction with purpose-built tablet-based virtual environments. Building on these findings, her company, Mentia Health, has translated this research into market-ready engagement technologies now deployed across the aged care sectors of the United States, Australia, and New Zealand. Ongoing research and development, supported by the NIH/NIA, investigates the potential of AI-driven avatar interactions to unobtrusively generate clinically relevant health indicators. This work aims to advance predictive models of acute adverse events, which, if left unmitigated, contribute to diminished quality of life, elevated caregiver burden, and increased strain on healthcare systems.
