About the speaker: Michael S. Businelle, Ph.D., is the Peggy and Charles Stephenson Endowed Chair in Cancer, Co-Director of the Health Promotion Research Center, and Professor (tenured) in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. He is also the founding director of the NCI-designated Stephenson Cancer Center mHealth Shared Resource. Over the past five years, Dr. Businelle’s team has developed the Insight mHealth platform, which enables researchers to rapidly create mobile applications that can utilize ecological momentary assessments (EMAs) and sensor data to identify environmental, cognitive, affective, physiological, and behavioral antecedents of health risk behaviors (e.g., smoking, heavy alcohol use, poor diet / inactivity / obesity, etc.) and deliver context-specific Just-in-Time Adaptive Interventions (JITAIs) in real-time. To date, the Insight platform has supported 64 research studies (34 funded by the NIH; 4 international).
About the talk: Dr. Businelle will define ecological momentary assessment (EMA) and Just-in-Time Adaptive Interventions (JITAIs). He will also discuss his ongoing mHealth interventions that use the Insight Platform to address smoking cessation, alcohol cessation/reduction, cancer, anxiety/depression, and case management.
