Feature Comparison Chart

In collaboration with the LMS Steering Committee, members of the investigation team have put together a comprehensive comparison chart of the various systems offered at Boston University.

Tools evaluated –

  • Blackboard Learn, 9.1 – Blackboard is the current enterprise solution for the majority of Boston University. It is the centrally supported LMS at the university.
  • Sakai – The School of Management offers it’s own solution for their own faculty and student to be used for courses.
  • edX – As members of the edX consortium, the Digital Learning Initiative works with faculty to design and develop massively open, online course (MOOCs).
  • Google Classroom – Although not centrally supported at BU, Google does offer an alternative for online coursework.

Methodology

The comparison chart looks at several key functionality areas that are most commonly used. At this point, it does not include the integration of third party tools such as Echo360 or TurningTechnologies (clickers).
