Participate in a study about ASL comprehension!
Thank you for your interest in our study! We are currently looking for deaf adults who use ASL to participate in a research study about ASL comprehension.
This study can only be done in-person by visiting RIT’s Eastman Building (1 Lomb Memorial Dr, Rochester, NY 14623), Room #2361
To be eligible for this study, you must:
- Be a severely or profoundly deaf adult between the ages of 18-60
- Be regular user of ASL, exposed before the age of 5
- Have no known neurological, visual, or cognitive impairments
The study is expected to take around 40 minutes. When you arrive for the study, we will ask you some questions about your language background, such as what age you first learned ASL, before you do the experiments. You will sit in front of a desk-mounted eye-tracker (that records where you look on a computer screen) and complete two tasks:
- You will watch videos of individual signs and copy what you see. Your responses will be video recorded.
- You will watch videos of signed sentences and respond to comprehension questions.
Participants will be paid $40 via an Amazon gift card. The study takes place in-person in RIT Eastman room 2361.
