LAVA Lab member, Julie Behar, awarded summer UROP grant!

Congratulations to our third-year undergraduate research assistant, Julie Bahar, for being awarded funding from the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program at Boston University to continue her research this Summer on the verb knowledge in American Sign Language (ASL). Julie will be using eye tracking technology to examine how Deaf adults divide their visual attention between linguistic and non-linguistic stimuli depicting specific verbs. Previous research has shown that verbs are harder for Deaf children to acquire than nouns in American Sign Language. Julie hopes that information from Deaf adults will help inform our understanding as to how Deaf children learn verbs in ASL.
