Research Overview

AI4AD

Project Title: Artificial Intelligence for Alzheimer’s Disease – Ultrascale Machine Learning to Empower Discovery in Alzheimer’s Disease Biobanks
Project Goals: The goal of this proposal is to develop transformative AI approaches for high throughput analysis of next generation sequencing (NGS) and related AD biomarker and cognitive data. Our collective effort in this proposal will sieve extensive genomic, biomarker, and cognitive data to extract and prioritize the features that are essential to address fundamental barriers to AD prevention and drug discovery. ACAD

Project Title: Asian Cohort for Alzheimer’s Disease
Project Goals: The Asian Cohort for Alzheimer’s Disease (ACAD) study will recruit 500 participants of Chinese ancestry each year to study genetics of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and related dementia. We will analyze genetic and clinical data to investigate impact of lifestyle risk factors, genetic variants for risk. We will replicate these findings through meta-analysis collaborations with international Asian cohorts and AD studies from other populations. For details, read about ACAD here.

APOE Project

Project Title: Investigation of therapeutic targets mimicking APOE ε2 protective mechanisms in Alzheimer Disease
Project Goals: Identify mechanisms underlying the protective effect of APOE ε2 in Alzheimer Disease using genetic association and experimental approaches in brain tissue and neuronal cell lines. For details, read about APOE project here.

FHS-BAP

Project Title: Role of classical complement pathway underling glial phenotypes and multiple pathologies in Alzheimer’s disease and cerebrovascular disease
Project Goals: Continue surveillance, perform cognitive and MRI exams, and orchestrate the brain donor programs and repository for the Framingham Heart Study – Brain Aging Program (FHS-BAP); perform research related to risk, resilience, and inflammatory and vascular basis of Alzheimer disease. For details, read about FHS-BAP here.

ADGC

Project Title: Alzheimer’s Disease Genetics Consortium (ADGC) Multi-Ethnic Project
Project Goals: To assemble and use collaboratively the resources of the AD research community to apply genome wide association approaches to identify genes influencing susceptibility to AD. For details, read about ADGC Multi-ethnic project here.

BUADRC GMP Core

Project Title: Genetics & Molecular Profiling Core
Project Goals: The new Genetics & Molecular Profiling (GMP) Core is building on previous work of genetics and molecular characterization of BU ADRC participants and other cohorts that has led to numerous important discoveries and greatly increased our understanding of mechanisms and biological pathways leading to AD. The GMP serves as a centralized resource for the organization and analysis of genetic data within the ADRC and, affiliated projects by providing an infrastructure needed to coordinate molecular research efforts that will lead to a better understanding of genotype-phenotype relationships for dementia and related endophenotypes. For details, read about BUADRC GMP Core project here.
