About Us

We study the epidemiology of infectious diseases, with a primary focus on tuberculosis, COVID-19 and HIV. With local and international partners, particularly in South Africa, we combine epidemiological approaches with bacterial and host genetic data and statistical models to explore questions about tuberculosis transmission and outcomes. Much of our work is in persons who use substances, including alcohol and smoked illicit drugs. Our collaborations also leverage large data sets to understand TB disease burden from routinely collected laboratory data.

Since 2020, we have also developed programs with similar translational structures to study the viral dynamics of SARS-CoV-2 variants in Boston’s diverse patient population.
