Description: Letter sent from John Freeman of Tanton to Governor Winslow on 3 July 1675. Freeman is requesting additional military support for the colonists’ battle with the Indians. He describes their lack of resources and the fighting style of the Indians. Postscript names the men killed in the Indian attacks.

Honored Governor,

We are adestressed peopell we herd nothing (^sense) from the army we found the Enimi is disposed through the willdornes they are as we Judge round about us this mor-ning three of oure men are sllaine cllose by one of our Contes of gard houses burnt in oure sight oure men being so pict of out of everi boosh and so fue of them: dare not I shu out I hafe sent to Governor Louerit for 40 or suo men and armes we are forsed to keepe oure Contes of gard and are not capaboll to with to stand the Enimi though we see houses burning befor oure Eyes I pray send som armes to us if you can and som to oure sothorne townes Eastham hath as I think not 20 good armes in it I pray give them Instruction how to manage things for there security for thay mutch wont hellp: we expect this night to be farther surprised by the Enimi we see ther desire is not to fase the Enimi the army but to kepe afllieng armi about the woods to waite on us and our armi as thay hafe advantage I Judge there should be what Indians may be ingaged in the quorill for us which must hunt them out for us or Ellse our Ing-llish will be dishartened to travill about in the woods and get nothing but a Cllop with abulit out of everi bush, the Lord humbell us for our sins which are the procuring cases of gods judments and remember marsy to and bestow it on us is the prayer of your unworthy sorvent
