The Center for Health Data Science is excited to announce the launch of DataHub, a new comprehensive research support resource designed to help researchers discover, access, and use existing data sources for health-related research.
DataHub helps researchers leverage data by:
- Bringing together expertise on a wide range of curated data sources
- Matching researchers with appropriate datasets
- Streamlining data access and regulatory compliance
- Advising on analytic methods and tools
- Connecting domain experts and data scientists for collaboration
During this event we will:
- Introduce DataHub’s infrastructure, curated data inventory, and comprehensive research support resources
- Foster new interdisciplinary collaborations between domain experts and data scientists
- Announce a pilot award opportunity to seed innovative projects leveraging existing data
Registration is now closed. View the event recording here.
Pilot Award Opportunity
Goal
The primary goal of this award is to encourage interdisciplinary collaborations that lead to the development of competitive grant proposals leveraging one or more of the following data sources — All of Us, MarketScan, or Data Axle — to advance data-driven, convergent research in health and biomedical science.
Projects should aim to generate preliminary results or proof-of-concept findings that will strengthen a future grant application to funding agencies such as NIH, NSF, or private foundations.
Applicants may request up to $5,000 for one year to support Boston University students or postdoctoral associates or to purchase research supplies or equipment. These funds may not be used for publication fees, conference travel, faculty salaries, or indirect costs.
Awardees will also receive in-kind data management and analytic support (e.g. data curation, statistical analyses) from CHDS/BEDAC to develop a competitive grant proposal.
Eligibility
- BU faculty, staff, and students are eligible to apply as Principal Investigators (PIs)
- Student or staff PIs must include a faculty mentor or supervisor on their research team
- At least one team member must be affiliated with CHDS/BEDAC
Proposal Requirements
Applications must include:
- Project title
- List of research team members and their affiliations
- Abstract (maximum 350 words)
- Project description including background, specific aims, and approach (maximum one page)
- Budget and budget justification
- Anticipated deliverables and analytic support needs (maximum 350 words)
- Target grant opportunities (e.g. RFAs) and a proposed submission timeline
If selected, the lead investigator must present a poster summarizing the project progress at the annual Health Data Science poster session, to be held on the Boston University Medical Campus in Fall 2026.
Submission and Review
Interdisciplinary proposals with strong potential for generating competitive external grant applications will be prioritized.
Deadline for submission is Wednesday, December 17, 2025.
