Mama Afya
Global Health Technologies Program in Zanzibar
Through the Global Health Technologies Program we will be traveling to Zanzibar, an island off the coast of Tanzania, for six weeks this summer in order to improve healthcare with engineering solutions. Under the mentorship of Dr. Ishrat Bano and Dr. Muhammad Zaman and in partnership with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, we will be working to develop technology that addresses maternal health (mama afya) in developing countries, like Tanzania.
The program’s project-based curriculum will allow us to work in the field and with local Zanzibari students at the State University of Zanzibar. Our project will focus on technology development, technology implementation, and local context in the semi-autonomous state of Zanzibar.
We would like to thank the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, without whom this project would not be possible and we would not be able to help those in need.
