I recently complete a BA/MA program at BU (BA in Earth and Environmental Sciences and a MA in Remote Sensing and Geospatial Sciences). I am interested in using marine remote sensing and GIS techniques to produce relevant data for policy makers so that they know how to best conserve and protect aquatic ecosystems. My research involves using satellite imagery to study how optically active constituents vary in the water throughout Plum Island Estuary and how that affects the habitat suitability of future seagrass restoration sites. I also have been taking weekly samples of the Charles River since last April to create seasonally-adjusted optical proxies that, combined with satellite imagery, can continuously monitor the river’s water quality.
