Postdoc position available

The Environmental Fluid Mechanics group in the Department of Earth and Environment at Boston University is seeking a postdoctoral candidate interested in urban flow and climate modeling using large-eddy simulations. The successful candidate will lead research on quantifying flow and scalar transport over real urban canopies and implications for Advanced Air Mobility. Candidates with previous experience with the PALM model system and scientific computing languages (e.g., Python) are preferred, but highly motivated individuals with background in boundary layer meteorology, climatology, hydrology, geography, and earth sciences are encouraged to apply. A Ph.D. degree is required by the time of appointment.

The successful candidate will benefit from close collaborations with an interdisciplinary team as part of a large project to help develop safe, affordable, and quiet vertical lift air vehicles that can take off and land vertically. The successful candidate will also benefit from an outstanding research environment at Boston University. In particular, the Department of Earth and Environment at Boston University has strong strengths in areas of coupled natural and human dimensions of climate change.

Interested applicants should contact Dr. Dan Li (lidan@bu.edu). Please include your latest CV and names of three references with the email titled “Application for urban modeling postdoc position by your name”. Position start date is Sept 1, 2023 but can be changed depending on the candidate’s availability. Initial contract duration is 12 months. Extension is desired but conditional on the performance of the candidate.
