Fall in Love with Boston

Ah, November. Midterms are finally over, and finals are a whole month away. We get a brief breath of fresh air before we have to dive back into studying again, and then the semester will be done before we know it. It’s easy to stay inside as Boston gets a little colder, but there are also some really fun activities to do in Boston (and outside of it) that have to do with the chillier seasons. Maybe try getting out of the BU bubble for a few hours, and explore somewhere you have never been before. There is something to do for everyone, no matter how you feel about the holidays. Here is a list of some activities/places to go that will take you around Massachusetts this fall:

Want a fun farm experience and some fresh fruit?
Honey Pot Hill Orchards, a favorite of BU students, is open for apple picking 9-5 every day. At Honey Pot, you can pick a variety of apples, enjoy yourself on a hayride, feed the farm animals, and get some fresh baked goods from their bakery.

Itching to go for a hike?
Mix it up and go for a Goat Hike with Goats to Go, a farm in Georgetown, Massachusetts (which you can get to through the Commuter Rail). This sounds like a pretty unique experience—you get to be up close and personal with a bunch of goats while getting some exercise in. These hikes are taking place on Thanksgiving Eve at 3pm and Thanksgiving Day at 11am

Looking for Thanksgiving-themed plans?
Try America’s Hometown Thanksgiving Celebration Parade in the historical town of Plymouth. MA. Taking place on November 20th at 9am, this parade chronologically depicts American History through eccentric, full-scale parade floats. It has been ranked the #1 Thanksgiving parade in the nation, so it might be worth travelling to Plymouth for.

Getting a little sick of all the traditional American holiday festivities?
Try the Festival of Illumination at Southwick’s Zoo in Mendon, MA. Every Wednesday at 5:30pm through Jan 2, 2022, the zoo hosts a festival called the “World of Lights.” This entails hand-crafted Chinese lantern exhibits that take you all over the world, depicting the cultures of many different nations. There is also live entertainment and delicious Chinese food.

In the mood for Christmas already?
No judgement. The Copley Square Tree Lighting might be a great event for you. The lighting will happen on November 29th from 5-6pm, and it’s just a short T ride away. It’s also 100% free, which is always a plus, but feel free to support the Boston Parks and Recreation Department anyway.

Overall, don’t let yourself get to the point of feeling burnt out. And don’t let yourself stay inside this either! Take a break, try something new, and experience fall in Boston.
