by Paige Hill

Tired of the city? In need of some fresh air and green space? Join Branch Out on October 28th for a private tour of the Arnold Arboretum in Jamaica Plain!

Arnold Arboretum encompasses 281 acres and is owned by Harvard University and the City of Boston. It is the main gem in the Emerald Necklace, a chain of parks connected by parkways and waterways in the greater Boston area. Easily accessible by the MBTA train or bus, Arnold Arboretum is an important part of Boston’s urban ecosystem.

“The tour of Arnold Arboretum will allow us to appreciate the urban ecosystem,” said Branch Out’s program manager Anna Helfrich (ENG’18), “as well as learn more about its organization and how it’s set up.”According to Helfrich, Branch Out seeks to have a variety of one-time opportunities for students to volunteer, learn and reflect upon their experiences.

A group will leave from the CSC (fourth floor of the GSU) at 8 a.m. Sign up to join Branch Out on their tour here!

Unable to join Branch Out on their tour? You can still visit the Arboretum on your own. Just take the Orange Line to the Forest Hills stop and the Arboretum is a short walk away. It is open free of charge from sunrise to sunset, 365 days of the year.
