Open Positions
Undergraduate Research Assistants:
- Volunteer basis
- Potential for UROP funding
- Potential for academic credit
The Bilingual Learning Lab examines language and cognitive development in children with and without neurodevelopmental disorders. Our research focuses particularly on bilingual children ages 2–8. We are currently conducting both online and in-person research studies with families from Spanish-, Mandarin-, and English-speaking communities. Undergraduate research assistants (RAs) work closely with graduate students and faculty in the lab and gain valuable experience for careers in healthcare, speech-language pathology, psychology, education, and developmental research.
Undergraduate RAs may be involved in one or more of the following activities:
• Participant recruitment and communication with families
• Transcription of video-recorded parent–child interactions
• Transcription of children’s language samples from standardized assessments
• Coding and scoring behavioral and language data
• Database organization and data management
• Supporting preparation of research materials and study stimuli
Spanish-speaking students or students with strong Spanish proficiency are highly encouraged to apply, as many of our participating families are Spanish-speaking.
Lab policy requires undergraduate research assistants to volunteer for at least two semesters and approximately 5–8 hours per week.
After completing two semesters in the lab, students may have additional opportunities to:
• Transition to paid research assistant positions (when available)
• Receive mentorship in submitting a UROP proposal
• Conduct an independent project or honors thesis
