Biorepository
As of 2022, our team has begun gathering biological samples from subjects with confirmed diagnoses of Chagas disease. We intend to utilize these samples to conduct research related to the diagnosis, progression, and treatment of Chagas.
Our Mission
Although Chagas disease affects millions of individuals globally, it remains significantly understudied. Our primary goal in the creation of our biorepository is to bridge the gaps in diagnosis and treatment currently seen with Chagas disease. As part of an NIH SBIR grant, site PI Daniel Bourque, MD, and co-investigator Davidson Hamer, MD aim to develop a large, diverse sample collection which will be used for future collaborative research. Our eventual goal is to develop enhanced screening and diagnostic techniques to improve the care of this population, particularly as it relates to the prevention of advanced disease.
Our Process
Our study team is collecting samples from subjects diagnosed with Chagas disease, including those who have not yet been treated, those who are undergoing treatment, and those who have completed treatment. Samples are collected during critical time points related to Chagas diagnosis and treatment to facilitate the analysis of disease progression.
