Poster Session with Novartis!

We worked with a team at Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research (NIBR) to set up a poster session for BU graduate students onsite at Novartis in the summer of 2019. It was a fantastic opportunity to present research and get feedback from industry professionals. The poster session was followed by a networking reception.

Chemistry Piano and Museum of Science!

Members of the Beeler lab and some BUWIC members have worked hard on the Chemistry themed “Play me I’m Yours” piano now at the museum of science!

Chemistry Jeopardy Tournament!

This Friday, August 16th, BUWIC will be hosting a Chemistry Jeopardy tournament in LSE 103. Come with your friends and labmates to participate in a friendly game of chemistry-themed Jeopardy while enjoying pizza and beer.  Prizes will be awarded for the top 3 teams.

What: Chemistry Jeopardy

When: Friday, August 16, 6pm

Where: LSE 103

Who: All grad students and post-docs. (Undergrads working in labs are welcome to attend, but must be 21 or older)

Annual BUYCC/BUWIC Summer BBQ

The annual BUYCC/BUWIC Summer BBQ will be this Friday, August 9, at 12 pm on the Communications Lawn. In the event of rain, we will move into the first floor of Metcalf ( just outside of SCI 109).

As in past years, there will be a $5 charge to cover your BUYCC/BUWIC dues for the year. We will have plenty of food, games, and raffle prizes, including: Red Sox/Yankees tickets, gift certificates to Yard House, Sunset Grille and Tap and more!

Chemistry Day May 2013 a Success!

BUWIC hosted a high school students from English and Brighton High Schools this Tuesday for our annual Chemistry Day on Thursday May 8, 2013. The group of 50+ students were welcomed with a some chemistry demos, including the classic (and audience favorite) elephant toothpaste. The high school students were also led through a series of lab experiments and taken on a few lab tours (thanks to the generosity of host Professors Elliot, Jasti, and Schaus!).

Lunch Q&A with Sarah Hokanson

BUWIC will be hosting a Q&A lunch session with Dr. Sarah Hokanson on her career as a Senior Officer for Science and Innovation for the British Consulate General in Boston.  Dr. Hokanson received her Bachelor’s degree from Boston University in 2005 and then moved to the University of Pennsylvania to complete her doctoral work in Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics. She then did post-doctoral research at Cornell University.

When: 11:30 am

Basics of Scientific Writing Seminar

BUWIC will be hosting a special seminar on the basics of scientific writing with Dr. Sonal Jhaveri a Science Communication professor, from MIT and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.  Coffee and cookies will be served before the seminar.

Industry Panel with Dr. Mike Hamill & Dr. Lynell Skewis!

This is a reminder that the BUWIC Industry Panel featuring  Dr. Mike Hamill (Elliot Group, 2010) and Dr. Lynell Skewis (Reinhard Group, 20111) is tonight at 6 pm! Mike and Lynell will share their experiences working in industrial positions, and answer any questions about how they got there and what it is like.

BUWIC Invited Colloquium Speaker 2012-2013: Prof. Marisa Kozlowski!

BUWIC will be hosting Professor Marisa Kozlowski (University of Pennsylvania, Kozlowski Home Page) tomorrow for Monday seminar at 4:00 pm ( LSEB B01). In addition to her science seminar, Prof. Kozlowski will be participating in an informal lunch session earlier in the day to discuss her career path and life in academia.
