Projects
BMSIP Project span a wide range of biological and biomedical subject areas. We are always happy to schedule a meeting and talk about potential proposals that may be suitable for our students.
Project Criteria
BMSIP projects meet the following criteria:
- Are entirely computational. No extensive wetlab work is permitted.
- Primarily involve analysis of biological data, which may include:
- high throughput sequencing data (e.g. whole genome sequencing, single cell/bulk RNASeq, etc)
- proteomics data (e.g. mass spectra)
- biomedical imaging (e.g. histological imaging)
- biomedical health record data
- Any data to be analyzed must already exist prior to project start
- Primarily utilize bioinformatics skills and techniques covered by the MS Curriculum, which may include
- Biological sequence analysis (e.g. sequence alignment, genome assembly, etc)
- Statistical analysis
- Data Visualization
- Machine learning and AI
- May be focused on:
- Biological discovery
- Bioinformatics algorithm development
- Biological analysis software development (e.g. analysis pipelines)
