The Robert P. Benedict Lectures in the History of Political Philosophy are an annual lecture series held in honor of the late Professor Robert P. Benedict of Boston University’s Department of Government. Professor Benedict, who had been associated with Boston University from 1943, was a professor of government at the time of his death. A native of Nuremberg, Germany, he was educated at the Universities of Leipzig, Berlin, Oxford, Rome, Jena, and the London School of Economics. He received a doctorate from the University of Jena. After coming to the United States, he was awarded a Master’s degree in political economy and government at Harvard University in 1942.

The Robert P. Benedict Lectures in the History of Political Philosophy are restricted to Greek, Roman, and European political philosophy. The lecturers are chosen from distinguished specialists in the field of political philosophy. This year, we have the pleasure to welcome Kinch Hoekstra of the University of California, Berkeley, to deliver the lectures.

All lectures are free and open to the public.
