CFP: Issue 2, Winter 2022

We are currently seeking contributions for our second issue “Objects, Objections, Objectifications”, forthcoming February 2022. Inspired in part by the 2018 British Museum installation “‘I Object’: Ian Hislop’s Search for Dissent,” this issue welcomes reflections on “object” in all its forms. An object is material––a thing, a commodity––and if transformed through application it can become an ideological tool, used to protest and resist, or to object in the name of solidarity and empowerment. Objects may be employed to objectify, or to see objectively. We are seeking pieces that explore this concept, object, in any of its manifestations, as relating to the social: disruption and opposition, empowerment and disempowerment, resolutions and reconciliations.

We believe fields are moved forward and remain relevant by the contributions of the newest scholars; for this reason our journal centers the work of graduate students and emerging scholars. Historical period, disciplinary approach, method, and topic remain open for contribution provided the work addresses the theme of “Objects, Objections, Objectifications” broadly construed. We welcome polemic statements, theoretical interventions, creative approaches, personal and/or photo essays, book or article reviews, methodological reflections, as well as traditional article-length texts of no more than 6500 words.

Please submit an abstract of 250-350 words and resume to ampersandjournalbu@gmail.com with subject line “Submission: Winter 2022” by October 20th, 2021. Selected contributors will be asked to send completed submissions by November 23rd, 2021.
