| Content | The manuscript deals with the illness and subsequent death of Prophet Muhammad. The poet describes the context and the people who were among the first to know that the Prophet was ill and that his time had come. These people included the Prophet’s daughter, Fatima, who took care of him while he was ill, and his close companions such as Bilal, Abu Bakr, and Ali (Aliyu or Aliyyu). The poem highlights the popularity and strength of the Prophet Muhammad, and thus the challenge for those who would come after in understanding Islamic practice. The poem also recounts the Prophet’s interactions with the Angel of Death and Angel Gabriel in his final moment. Despite his imminent death, the Prophet Muhammad was ready for his life to end, particularly given his service to God and his new religion. |
