About the Program

Freshmen Connect is an online mentorship program established in 2020 as a part of The Resiliency Challenge, a virtual hackathon for student innovation in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. The purpose of this program is to match upperclassmen mentors with incoming freshman mentees, providing them with a platform to ask questions, form relationships, learn about the Boston University experience, and prepare for their first year of university over the summer after orientation programs have ended. The program will focus on tailoring to individual interests and needs.

Duration

The summer mentorship program will last nine weeks from its start date, which will vary for each mentor-mentee pair or group. At any time within the summer mentorship term, mentors and mentees can register to participate. However, all virtual mentorship activities will be terminated once the term ends.

The 2020 program term start date will be June 29 and the term end date will be September 5.

Mentorship Options

Two mentorship options will be available.

The first option is one-on-one through email, where a mentor and a mentee will receive each other’s Boston University email address for contact. The mentor and mentee will commit to emailing each other at least once a week for the duration of their nine week program.

The second option is in groups of two or three mentees through Zoom, where a mentor and mentees will schedule video meetings for contact. The mentor and mentee group will commit to at least one video meeting every week for the duration of their nine week program.
