How to Participate

Neither yoga or walking is approved for the treatment of depression, and we want to ensure this study will be a good fit for you. There is a two-step screening process to participate. The first step is a 30-minute telephone interview where you will learn more about the study. The second step is a 2-4 hour in person appointment with the principal investigator, Dr. Chris Streeter. During the screening process, you may discuss your depression, medications, health and mental health.

We accept depressed people ages 18-65 into the study. Participants may continue taking some antidepressant medications and can continue seeing therapists. No medications are given during the study, and this may be a good fit for individuals who do not wish to be treated with antidepressants. Women cannot be pregnant, and this will be verified with blood and/or urine pregnancy tests. Women who have Levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine devices (e.g. Mirena®, Skyla®, Liletta®) cannot participate. Due to size restrictions on the MRI equipment, we cannot accept participants who weigh more than 300 lbs.

If you are interested in joining the study, you can contact us by emailing yogast@bu.edu or by calling (617) 638-8046.
