{"id":1052,"date":"2018-12-12T15:46:24","date_gmt":"2018-12-12T20:46:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/yell\/?page_id=1052"},"modified":"2018-12-12T16:05:01","modified_gmt":"2018-12-12T21:05:01","slug":"idd-mh-peer-mentoring","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/yell\/research\/idd-mh-peer-mentoring\/","title":{"rendered":"IDD-MH Peer mentoring"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Development and feasibility evaluation of a socially valid peer mentoring intervention for <\/strong><strong>young adults with intellectual\/developmental disabilities and mental health conditions<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is this project about?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We are developing a peer mentoring program for young adults with intellectual\/developmental disability and co-occurring mental health conditions (IDD-MH).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why is this project important?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Young adults with intellectual\/developmental disabilities and co-occurring mental health<br \/>\nconditions (IDD-MH) are at heightened risk for health and quality of life disparities, such as decreased community participation.<\/li>\n<li>Young adults with IDD-MH need services, but there are many barriers. Some barriers include: lack of professional knowledge about providing care young adults with IDD-MH, long waitlists, and lack of services accessible via public transportation. Peer-delivered interventions, such as peer mentoring, may be one solution to these barriers.<\/li>\n<li>Peer mentoring is a type of service where individuals with IDD-MH are trained to provide support and\/or deliver interventions to other young adults with IDD-MH. Peer mentoring is considered a best practice in mental health intervention and consistently promotes positive outcomes for individuals with IDD.<\/li>\n<li>There is no peer mentoring program for young adults with IDD-MH.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How are you developing the peer mentoring program? <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We are working with a group of young adults with IDD-MH to develop the program.
