The show marked one of the final stops of Oklou\u2019s \u201cchoke enough 2026 U.S. Tour,\u201d with Boston being the penultimate stop on the tour.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The tour, which began in March and wrapped this weekend, had a setlist that featured mostly songs from Oklou\u2019s album \u201cchoke enough,\u201d which was released in January 2025. However, it also included songs from Oklou\u2019s 2020 album \u201cGalore,\u201d along with covers and a song from the \u201cchoke enough\u201d deluxe edition.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The set, which lasted about an hour and twenty minutes, included music that made you want to hold hands with your friend at a club and dance without shame, alongside songs about heartbreak with motifs of unrequited love. From the beginning of the set, the production design was strong, with flashing lights that mimicked a club.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/wtbu\/files\/2026\/05\/oklou-royale-043026_11.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"5184\" height=\"3456\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-54100\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2026\/05\/oklou-royale-043026_11.png 5184w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2026\/05\/oklou-royale-043026_11-636x424.png 636w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2026\/05\/oklou-royale-043026_11-1024x683.png 1024w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2026\/05\/oklou-royale-043026_11-768x512.png 768w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2026\/05\/oklou-royale-043026_11-1536x1024.png 1536w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2026\/05\/oklou-royale-043026_11-2048x1365.png 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 5184px) 100vw, 5184px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oklou opened the set with \u201cict,\u201d an upbeat, fast-paced song full of repeated verses about summer. Also early in her set was \u201cobvious,\u201d a song that Oklou said was one of her favorites. It was my first time hearing it, and I really enjoyed the song\u2013the beat is much slower than many of her other songs, and there is a sort of wondrous intentionality in the lethargy of the piece. It sounds, to me, like something that would play in the background of a club during the moments when you feel like everything is moving in slow motion. I really loved the brass instruments on the track\u2013I don\u2019t often hear them in electronic\/dance music, and thought it was a great addition.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oklou was accompanied by two others on stage, one of whom was Casey MQ, who helped in creating \u201cchoke enough.\u201d The set included \u201ctake me by the hand,\u201d which, in the studio recording, includes verses from both Oklou and Bladee. At the show, Casey MQ sang Bladee\u2019s verses. After the song finished, Oklou recited some of the song&#8217;s lyrics: \u201cHoly inspiration comes\/Through the nerves in this suspension,\u201d and told the crowd, \u201cI\u2019m not really sure what it means, but I think it\u2019s a really beautiful line, written by my friend Bladee.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The set remained upbeat and powerful throughout, and featured a really cool set design and audience experience.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/wtbu\/files\/2026\/05\/oklou-royale-043026_7.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2720\" height=\"3438\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-54098\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2026\/05\/oklou-royale-043026_7.jpg 2720w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2026\/05\/oklou-royale-043026_7-503x636.jpg 503w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2026\/05\/oklou-royale-043026_7-810x1024.jpg 810w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2026\/05\/oklou-royale-043026_7-768x971.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2026\/05\/oklou-royale-043026_7-1215x1536.jpg 1215w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/files\/2026\/05\/oklou-royale-043026_7-1620x2048.jpg 1620w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2720px) 100vw, 2720px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At one point, a live feed was projected on a huge screen behind Oklou, projecting footage a team member was capturing as they ran around the venue. It featured both Oklou and her band, along with members of the crowd at the barricade. From the audience perspective, it really seemed like Oklou wanted to be there and was grateful\u2013she thanked everyone on her team by name, including those in her band and in the stage and tech crew. One of my favorite parts of the set was during the song \u201cchoke enough.\u201d In the song, a line says \u201cTake a photo,\u201d and during the performance, Oklou actually took a disposable photo of her and the audience.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My favorite part of the entire set was the last song of the encore, \u201cblade bird.\u201d It\u2019s also the closing track of the most recent album, and has been one of my most listened to songs for a while. It\u2019s quite acoustic, and seemingly describes her lover as a bird that, as birds do, flies away from her, and her feeling like a cage, trapping the bird. Devastatingly, she knows the love is unreciprocated, and repeats \u201cI\u2019ll be the one\/Who ends up getting hurt,\u201d often throughout the song. As a lover of poetry and slower, more acoustic songs, I find this song to be so beautifully artistic and a wonderful metaphor for a waning, fleeting love.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I truly enjoyed myself at Oklou\u2019s set. I loved watching the crowd dancing, and felt like everyone was having a good time. I\u2019ve always loved Oklou\u2019s \u201cblade bird,\u201d but hadn\u2019t heard much of her discography outside of this track prior to Thursday\u2019s set. Since then, I\u2019ve been streaming \u201cchoke enough\u201d on repeat and am inspired to hear more of her art.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\"
