For three hours on Sept. 7, 2025, Paradise Rock Club separated itself from the rest of Boston to become an oasis for indie rock music lovers. On an otherwise quiet Sunday night, Spacey Jane delivered a sold-out performance full of infectious energy and emotion, transforming the venue into something far more special than just another stop on tour.<\/span><\/p>\n The Australian indie rock band kicked off its North American adventure just four days earlier, with Boston marking the fourth stop. The tour is in support of its most recent album, \u201cIf That Makes Sense.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n This is Spacey Jane\u2019s third studio album, and it debuted at No. 2 on the ARIA charts. The band boasts a large and devoted following in Australia, and judging by its packed U.S. shows, its American fan base is quickly on the rise. No matter where you\u2019re from, it\u2019s hard not to fall in love with their coming-of-age sound and Australian charm.<\/span><\/p>\n I know I couldn\u2019t resist.<\/span><\/p>\n I went into the show not knowing what to expect. I was pretty unfamiliar with their discography, only having heard a few of their most popular songs. Upon arrival, I was amazed to see how packed the venue was. I squeezed my way into the pit, shoulder to shoulder with the crowd around me.<\/span><\/p>\n The show opened with another Australian rock band, the Belair Lip Bombs. I didn\u2019t get to watch the majority of their performance, but I loved the two songs I heard. They sported a laid-back indie rock sound, which perfectly set the stage for the main act.<\/span><\/p>\n Right at 9pm, the intermission music faded and the lights dimmed. The crowd went wild; everyone knew what was coming. Small light panels on the stage danced to the opening beats of \u201cThrough My Teeth,\u201d cueing the members of Spacey Jane to appear with electric energy. Lead vocalist Caleb Harper introduced the band and welcomed the crowd, his accent too thick and tone too excited to fully make out what he was saying. Behind him came bassist Peppa Lane, drummer Kieran Lama and lead guitarist Ashton Le Cornu.<\/span><\/p>\n Off the bat I was swept off my feet. Their first two songs, \u201cThrough My Teeth\u201d and \u201cEstimated Delivery,\u201d set the mood with dreamlike synths and sentimental lyrics that showcased each member\u2019s raw talent. Harper and Lane\u2019s vocals sounded unique and polished, and Le Cornu played with so much personality. I had been listening to the album all day, and was jaw-dropped by how much their live performance sounded like the recording.<\/span><\/p>\n As the show continued, it was hard to decide if Spacey Jane or the audience was having more fun. Each member was smiling ear to ear and dancing like they were the only ones in the room. Harper made a few high-spirited remarks toward the audience, but unfortunately his accent and the crowd made it really hard for me to understand him. Le Cornu seemed to be having the best time out of every soul in Boston. He was jumping from elevated surfaces, doing heel clicks in the air and whipping his hair around so intensely I was scared he was going to get whiplash.<\/span><\/p>\n A highlight of the show was the track \u201cThrills.\u201d Every member was spinning around, sweat flinging from their bodies. Le Cornu and Harper broke away from the audience for an electric guitar duel, wearing genuine smiles. It was impossible not to match their vibe and burst into movement. Harper ended the song with an authentic rock star scream, while Le Cornu flipped his guitar behind his head, playing it upside down. Jaw-dropping.<\/span><\/p>\n Another really fun track was \u201cLunchtime.\u201d Harper got so hyped up, he ran into the crowd.<\/span><\/p>\n The band slowed it down with a fan favorite, \u201cSeptember,\u201d which was pure magic. The lights turned the perfect shade of blue and Harper poured his heart into his lyrics. During the chorus, Harper stopped singing to listen to the crowd. It was one of the best crowd choirs I\u2019ve ever heard, filling the entire room with loud harmonies and bringing Harper (and myself) to tears.<\/span><\/p>\n As the show came to a close, Harper thanked the audience, calling us \u201ca very special crowd\u201d before the iconic opening chords of \u201cBooster Seat\u201d took over. This was my favorite song of the night. Every single person in the crowd sang as loud as they could and threw their hands up as Spacey Jane looked around in admiration. It was the most intimate a concert has ever felt for me, as if we were all dancing around in a bedroom together with the windows propped open.<\/span><\/p>\n I have nothing but positive things to say about Spacey Jane. Their passion for their craft is refreshing and contagious.
