{"id":45833,"date":"2025-01-27T12:24:09","date_gmt":"2025-01-27T17:24:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/?p=45833"},"modified":"2025-01-27T12:24:09","modified_gmt":"2025-01-27T17:24:09","slug":"womens-basketball-terriers-drop-fifth-straight-game-vs-bucknell","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/wtbu\/2025\/01\/27\/womens-basketball-terriers-drop-fifth-straight-game-vs-bucknell\/","title":{"rendered":"Women&#8217;s Basketball: Terriers Drop Fifth Straight Game vs. Bucknell"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Featured image by Jackson Shahinfar<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>By Ryan Abazari<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Boston University Women&#8217;s Basketball Team (7-12, 1-7 PL) fell to the Bucknell Bison (10-9, 5-3 PL) 74-59 in a Saturday afternoon matchup. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Terriers entered the contest dropping six of the past seven games, and hoped to regain some of that spark that helped take them to the Patriots League championship. The Terriers sole win in that run, was against the lowly American University who have yet to win a game this year, losing their first 19 in a row.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite that being the Terriers sole league win this season, they are only a few games away from breaking into the top six of the standings and avoiding the first round of the Patriot\u2019s League tournament.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Terriers would begin the game strongly with Alex Giannaros sinking a three for the first points of the game, a game in which she inched closer to passing Maggie Pina\u2019s record of the fourth most made three-pointers in Terrier history, leaving her only one back.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This would sadly be the Terriers largest lead of the game, meaning after sequential buckets from Ashley Sofilkanich and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Allison Schwertener, the 5-2 Terrier lead would be the last lead they held the entire game as they would go on to lose 74-59.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When asked about her team&#8217;s performance, Head Coach Melissa Graves said, \u201cI was happy with the offensive side of the ball for the most part, except for the first quarter. You know, we were kind of making some silly mistakes offensively, we were kinda turning the ball over. After that I thought we really locked in, we shot the ball at a really high clip for the rest of the game.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This was evident as the Terriers would outscore the Bison between the second quarter all the way until the final minute of regulation, cutting the lead to within six points on multiple occasions. However because of the Terrier\u2019s slow start and Bison\u2019s early rise the first quarter would determine the game, and the 11 point advantage from it would reign supreme.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sofilkanich would follow up her monstrous 44 point 11 rebound five assist performance that would see her tie the Bucknell single game points record, with a game high 22 points seven rebounds and six assists. The Bucknell sophomore currently leads the Patriots League in scoring averaging over 20 points per game and is second in rebounds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anete Adler would help the Terriers remain competitive throughout the fixture pouring in a team and career high 15 points off the bench for BU.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Terriers return home for a pair of games, which sees them taking on conference co-leaders Holy Cross at Case Gym at 4 p.m. on Monday afternoon.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Featured image by Jackson Shahinfar By Ryan Abazari Boston University Women&#8217;s Basketball Team (7-12, 1-7 PL) fell to the Bucknell Bison (10-9, 5-3 PL) 74-59 in a Saturday afternoon matchup.
